  53.      If you really are a complete idiot this won't help too much,

  55. and even if you aren't, some of these sites can be difficult to

  57. use.  But seriously, here are some tips on how to search SOME
  58.  
  59. important government documents on the Internet.

  89. EASY WAY TO FIND THE BIG FIVE PUBLICATIONS

  93.      There are pointers for all of five of these documents at the
  94.  
  95. essential.org gopher.  They are under menu item "4. Government
  96.  
  97. Information Resources".  Using essential.org adds a layer of
  98.  
  99. menus, but you only have to remember one address.  World Wide Web
  100.  
  101. (WWW) databases such as the Library of Congress THOMAS system
  102.  
  103. have been linked with the non-graphical interface lynx.

  131.      Thomas, the Library of Congress's Home Page, is a good site

  133.      to use if you have a Web browser.  It provides access to

  135.      Congressional bills and the Congressional Record.  Library

  137.      of Congress officials say THOMAS will soon have many other

  139.      documents, but the product line hasn't grown as fast as

  141.      expected.  You can also search THOMAS from the essential.org

  165. The GPO Access program is a terrific source of information, if

  167. you can find it and don't mind the somewhat clunky interface.

  169. GPO Access is the only free site for the FEDERAL REGISTER, and it
  170.  
  171. provides keyword searching of the US CODE.  Plus, you can do a
  172.  
  173. key word search on several publications at the same time, such as
  174.  
  175. searching bills, the Congressional Record and the US Code at the
  176.  
  177. same time for the same key words.  For reasons best explained
  178.  
  179. elsewhere, free access to GPO Access is provided through 13
  180.  
  181. libraries, each providing a somewhat different front end.  TAP
  182.  
  183. has provided links to 9 of these libraries through the
  184.  
  185. essential.org gopher.  If you want to connect directly, here are

  365. the United States.  The GPO's US Code database is current as of

  369. laws passed during the 2nd Session of the 103rd Congress (1994)

  371. includes a note identifying the public law that affected that
  372.  
  373. section.  Some titles available from the House gopher are current
  374.  
  375. as of January 1995.  GPO allows searching of the entire Code,
  376.  
  377. while the House gopher requires the user to retrieve the code by
  378.
